Core Responsibilities
- Maintain aging reports and follow up on past-due invoices.
- Resolve billing disputes with customers.
- Contact customers via phone/email to secure payments and negotiate payment plans.
- Interpret lease agreements, payment terms, late fees, and default clauses.
- Identify high-risk accounts and escalate issues to management, legal, third-party collections, or asset recovery teams.
- Coordinate with the Asset Recovery Coordinator for repossession or return of equipment in cases of default.
- Maintain accurate records and comply with FDCPA, UCC, and internal policies.
Industry-Specific Knowledge
- Understand transportation cycles and their impact on cash flow and customer payments.
- Awareness of equipment value and utilization, including condition, mileage/usage, and resale implications.
- Be familiar with multi-jurisdictional considerations for leases and recoveries.
Key Skills
- Strong negotiation and communication skills.
- Analytical skills, including aging analysis, dispute resolution, and payoff calculation.
- Contract literacy.
- Professional firmness with customer empathy.
Required Education, Experience, Knowledge & Skills
- Bachelor’s or associate degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years’ collections experience, preferably in leasing and transportation.
- Strong knowledge of debt collections laws and regulations, including the FDCPA.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Computer skills including CRM, ERP systems (Power BI, Salesforce, Excel, Google).
