About the role
The Wyner Family Jewish Heritage Center (JHC) at New England Historic Genealogical Society (NEHGS) is a destination for collecting, preserving, and illuminating the histories of Jewish families and institutions in New England and beyond. It is an archive and educational center engaging scholars, genealogists, and the general public in the study and understanding of American Jewish history and heritage. The JHC holds more than 2 million documents in its collections focused on New England Jewish individuals, families, and organizations, and has a digital archive of nearly 700,000 searchable documents.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and provide physical and intellectual management of the JHC’s archival collections;
- Manage the ArchivesSpace repository;
- Communicate with collection donors;
- Work with JHC staff to set collection policies and procedures;
- Update collection processing and digitization priorities for the archive;
- Process collections as needed.
Requirements
- 3-5 years of experience in archives or related field;
- A Master's degree in Library Science or a related field preferred;
- Experience with archival processing and cataloging;
- Knowledge of archival principles and best practices;
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Qualifications
- Proven ability to manage and maintain archival collections;
- Experience with digital asset management systems;
- Knowledge of archival software such as ArchivesSpace;
- Experience with donor relations and fundraising;
- Strong research and analytical skills.
Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite;
- Experience with database management systems;
- Knowledge of digital preservation standards;
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment;
- Strong problem-solving skills.
