COLLECTIONS CLERK, PT
This is a part-time position.
About the role
Depending on the department to which an individual is assigned, the work may involve the collection of various fees and assessment liens. Work may entail frequent personal and/or telephone public contact in handling fee and/or lien collections and routine clerical duties. Duties include:
- Calculating miscellaneous charges involved in litigating delinquent accounts and any adjustments to accounts based on new information provided by the customer, City code, or review of documents (such as Certificate of Occupancy, demolition permits, park permits, and private hauler contracts)
- Researching property ownership using information provided by the Miami-Dade County Courthouse or Water Department
- Typing correspondence to be sent from the delinquent section, including legal documents to be recorded in official records of the County
- Verifying fee calculations and validating cash collection at end of shift with supporting documentation
- Performing other related work as required
Ability to operate a computer terminal and/or point of sale system, 10 Key adding machines, cash registers, and/or other common office equipment is required.
Requirements
- High school diploma or its equivalent with six (6) months general clerical or cashiering experience
- OR an equivalent combination of education and experience beyond a high school diploma or its equivalent and six (6) months of the required experience
- Depending on the area of assignment, a valid driver's license may be required. If required, a valid Driver's License from any state (equivalent to a State of Florida Class E) may be utilized upon application. However, prior to appointment, a State of Florida Driver's License (Class E or higher) must be presented and maintained valid throughout employment
Schedule
Employees in this classification will be required to work various shifts, including nights, holidays, and weekends.
Screening
Depending on the assigned department, candidates will be subject to a Level II background screening and may be subject to screening through the Florida Clearinghouse. Prospective employees may also be required to submit to toxicology and medical screening.
Documentation Requirements
Applicants must upload and submit the following documents with the employment application:
- Proof of education: High school diploma or its equivalent. Foreign diplomas/degrees must be submitted with a credential evaluation report from an approved agency. Translations alone are not accepted. If the diploma/degree does not reflect the academic major, transcripts indicating degree completion must be submitted. Transcripts must include the student's name, school name, number of credits, degree completion, and major. Audit/academic reports are not accepted.
- To qualify under the equivalency clause, proof of education may include college transcripts, an Associate's degree or higher, or a credential evaluation report from an approved agency (e.g., a current member of NACES or AICE, or an accredited four-year U.S. college/university).
All documents must be clear, legible, and in proper format. Failure to submit required documents may result in disqualification.
