Coding Validation Auditor
Two Coding Validation Auditor positions are available: one focused on surgical/procedural coding and one on Evaluation and Management (E/M) services.
About the role
The Coding Validation Auditor performs quality reviews of medical records for coding and billing to ensure the clinical information is accurate, complete, and compliant. Responsibilities include validating coding accuracy, documentation support, CPT/HCPCS and ICD-10-CM code assignment, modifier usage, and compliance with applicable coding guidelines. The role also involves evaluating proper and complete authorization for procedures and is eligible for remote work.
Responsibilities
- Audit surgical/procedural coding or Evaluation and Management (E/M) services for accuracy and compliance.
- Validate coding accuracy, including CPT/HCPCS and ICD-10-CM code assignment and modifier usage.
- Review medical records to ensure documentation supports coding and billing.
- Assess proper authorization for procedures performed on prior authorized dates of service.
- Maintain current knowledge of coding rules, guidelines, Coding Clinic, CPT Assistant, and regulatory updates.
- Deliver outstanding customer service aligned with CarolinaEast's Standards of Excellence.
Requirements
- RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, or CPC certification.
- Five or more years of hospital coding and/or coding auditing experience for a healthcare entity.
- Current understanding of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding.
