About the role

The Coding Specialist operates as a member of the Coding Department within Revenue Cycle Management. The Coding Specialist is responsible for abstracting all CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10-CM, modifier, and units from the medical record documentation for pro-fee billing.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews medical records to assign accurate ICD-10 CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes based on payer, provider, and/or location billing requirements.
  • Ensures coding compliance with federal regulations, payer policies, and industry standards.
  • Identify and resolve documentation deficiencies; communicate with providers when clarification is needed.
  • Validates documentation supports level of service selection.
  • Utilizes coding software, encoder and other resources provided.
  • Stay current on coding updates, payer guidelines, and healthcare regulations.
  • Maintain strict HIPAA compliance and confidentiality.
  • Optimize claims for accurate, maximum reimbursement.
  • Support overall revenue cycle efficiency.
  • Maintains productivity goals set by department.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Active coding certification through AAPC or AHIMA (CPC, CIC, COC, CRC, CPMA, CCS, CCS-P, RHIA, RHIT, CPC-A, etc.).
  • Minimum of 1-year hands-on medical coding experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, & HCPCS coding systems.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Strong knowledge of MDM leveling and E/M coding guidelines.
  • Fluent written and spoken English required.

Monday-Friday - 8am-4:30pm
