Coding Quality Review Specialist - Inpatient (CCS Required)
About the role
The Inpatient Coding Quality Review Specialist ensures the quality and integrity of inpatient medical records through expert coding reviews. This role validates ICD-10-CM/PCS code assignments by reviewing medical record documentation, present on admission (POA) indicators, and discharge disposition status. Responsibilities also include reviewing quality indicators such as Maryland Hospital-Acquired Conditions (MHACs), Hospital-Acquired Conditions (HACs), Patient Safety Indicators (PSIs), and mortality cases.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Vocational/Technical Degree or certificate; Associate in Health Information Management, Health Information Technology or similar degree with successful completion of medical terminology, Anatomy and Physiology and Coding courses in ICD-10 CM and PCS preferred
- 1-2 years inpatient coding experience, preferably in an acute care setting
- 3-4 years Auditing experience preferred
- Current Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) credential through AHIMA (required)
- Certificate as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC AAPC) preferred
