Coder, OP Oncology

About the Role

Under the supervision of the HIS OP Coding Reimbursement/Coordination, the Coder II is responsible for reviewing the medical record in its entirety, applying coding guidelines and regulations, and assigning ICD-CM and/or PCS and CPT diagnoses and procedures codes accurately and timely. Consistently meet or exceed turnaround times and quality expectations.

Responsibilities

• Review medical records and apply coding guidelines to assign accurate ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and CPT/HCPCS codes.
• Ensure timely and precise coding to meet or exceed turnaround times and quality standards.
• Demonstrate working knowledge of healthcare revenue cycle functions, including documentation, coding, and billing guidelines.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent (required).
• Coding credentials (e.g., CCS, COC, CCS-P, CPC, RHIT, RHIA) from AHIMA or AAPC (required).
• Minimum one year of experience in an acute healthcare setting (preferred).
• Three to five years of experience in Acute Care coding with CPT and ICD-10-CM (preferred).
• Three or more years of multispecialty coding experience (preferred).
• Thorough knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and pharmacology.
• Ability to use computers effectively and proficiency with EMR systems (e.g., Cerner, EPIC).
• Experience with encoders (e.g., Optum, Clintegrity, Compliance 360, 3M) and CAC systems.
• Previous experience with compliance software, imaging systems, and/or HBOC products.

Skills

• Excellent written and oral communication, teaching, and presentation skills.
• Ability to accurately apply ICD-10 diagnosis, procedure, and CPT/HCPCS codes.
