Coder III

About the role

The Coder III plays a crucial role in ensuring accurate and timely coding of medical records. This position requires extensive knowledge of ICD-9-CM and CPT codes, along with experience in UHDDS and APCs.

Responsibilities

• Analyze medical records for completion by Medical Staff, clinical or ancillary departments.
• Perform coding and abstracting functions efficiently within the electronic medical record system.
• Navigate the EMR to locate patient information necessary for coding.
• Accurately abstract medical records for quality assessment screens.
• Utilize advanced level computerized medical records coding and abstracting skills.
• Maintain up-to-date status of the coding process using computer tools.
• Code advanced level inpatient, outpatient, and Emergency Department records.

Requirements

• CCS certification is mandatory.
• RHIT or RHIA certification is preferred.
• Associate Degree in Health Information Technology or Information Technology or equivalent is the minimum educational requirement.
• Knowledge of Medical Terminology, Anatomy and Physiology is beneficial.
• Completion of an AHIMA-approved coding program is required.
• Three years of acute hospital experience, with a focus on inpatient and outpatient coding, is expected.

• Knowledge of E&M coding and modifier usage.
• Expertise in utilizing advanced level encoders.

Pay

The opening pay range for a Coder III is $37.92 to $60.68 per hour.
