Entity MUSC Community Physicians (MCP) – Regular, full-time employee position (40 scheduled weekly hours).
About the role
The coder/abstracter is responsible for accurate code assignment of all inpatient, outpatient, and emergency service diagnoses, procedures, and conditions as documented in the patient medical record. Classification systems include ICD-10 and CPT, and all coding adheres to official guidelines from the American Medical Association, the American Hospital Association, and the American Health Information Management Association. Work is performed in accordance with Health Information Management Department and MUSC-approved policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Assign accurate codes for diagnoses, procedures, and conditions using ICD-10 and CPT.
- Follow official coding guidelines from the American Medical Association, American Hospital Association, and American Health Information Management Association.
- Ensure compliance with Health Information Management Department and MUSC policies and procedures.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree in health information technology or related field or 5 years of coding experience.
- Coding certification (e.g., CPC, CCS) required.
- With an Associate’s degree, minimum of 2–3 years of coding experience and familiarity with coding software.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to resolve coding issues.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Qualifications
- Required certifications: RHIT, CCS, CCA, CPC, CPC-A, or other coding credential.
Pay
Hourly pay grade: Health-25.
Schedule
Full-time, 40 scheduled weekly hours.
