Coder II - Anatomic Pathology

Full-time remote position supporting Anatomical Pathology, including HLA and Medical Genetics and Molecular Laboratory. Schedule is first shift, Monday - Friday, with no weekends or holidays.

Responsibilities

• Timely and accurate coding of hospital-based professional services (outpatient or inpatient) by reviewing medical record documentation to assign and sequence diagnoses and procedure codes according to coding guidelines.
• Enter appropriate diagnoses codes, professional service codes, modifiers, and/or facility service/charge codes into the electronic system.
• Assign and record appropriate modifiers (e.g., GC, NO, or NDU) based on Teaching Physician rules.
• Maintain current knowledge of ICD diagnosis codes, CPT physician service codes, internal codes, and governmental (Medicare, Medicaid, TriCare), commercial, and managed care regulations through professional literature and workshops.
• Accrue sufficient continuing education hours to maintain national coding certification.
• Serve as a resource for less experienced medical coders.
• Collaborate with team members, Corporate Revenue Cycle, and Compliance Analysts to resolve issues related to documentation, coding, and billing.
• Provide physician education to ensure documentation supports accurate coding.
• Resolve pending charges in the WakeOne coding work queues, including claim denial work queues.
• Abstract and code inpatient hospital, outpatient, and ambulatory physician services and special procedures (e.g., Emergency Room, Ambulatory Surgery) using standard ICD, CPT, and internal coding guidelines.
• Perform other related duties incidental to the work described.

Requirements

• Two (2) years of medical coding experience in a similar environment, or eligibility for internal promotion based on achieving and maintaining Coder level II performance criteria for six consecutive months.
• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Active coding certification issued by the American Academy of Coders (AAPC) or American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).

Skills

• Experience in coding physician professional services in a teaching environment.
• Familiarity with Medicare Teaching Physician Rules.
• Familiarity with facility fee services within a Provider Based clinic.
• Ability to meet and maintain performance standards of quality and productivity for Level II Coder by department.

Pay

$26.55 - $39.85 per hour.
