Coder – Health Information Management

About the role

The HIM Coder is accountable for converting diagnoses and treatment procedures into codes using an international classification of diseases. This position requires skill in the sequencing of diagnoses/procedures to optimize reimbursement. Additionally, the HIM Coder ensures that records are coded accurately and in a timely manner, and runs coding reports from the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.

Responsibilities

• Ensure records are coded accurately and in a timely manner
• Run coding reports from the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system
• Maintain coding reports in a timely manner

Requirements

• High School graduate or equivalent
• Two or more years of previous hospital experience as a Coder preferred
• CSS Certification preferred
• CPC Certification preferred

Qualifications

• Education: High School graduate or equivalent
• Experience: Two or more years of previous hospital experience as a Coder preferred

Skills

• Knowledge of International Classification of Diseases (ICD)
• Ability to sequence diagnoses/procedures for optimal reimbursement
• Proficiency in running coding reports from EHR systems
• Timely maintenance of coding reports
