About the role
We are looking for a motivated COBOL Software Developer to design and develop scalable software solutions while adhering to coding standards and participating in agile processes. This is a full-time, remote position. Only candidates without a need for sponsorship now or in the future will be considered.
Responsibilities
- Design and create engineering specifications for software applications and programs
- Write code that adheres to coding standards and perform code reviews
- Generate ideas, explore, and implement technical solutions to achieve required product features
- Monitor technical processes against project plans while safeguarding functionality, scalability, and performance
- Participate in agile ceremonies, assist in sprint planning, and complete required sprints
- Communicate blockers to the Scrum Master in a timely manner
- Drive story creation, including Definition of Done (DoD), Acceptance Criteria, and estimation
- Create tasks for stories in applicable software (e.g., RTC, Jira) and update their status and assignment
- Monitor work against production schedules and provide progress updates or report issues regularly
- Mentor associate software engineers as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned or requested
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field
- 3 years of proficiency in design and analysis of algorithms, data structures, and design patterns in building scalable, highly available systems
- 3 years of experience in at least one modern programming language (e.g., Java, Python, JavaScript, ACE, IIB/ITX, Informatica preferred) and experience with at least two of the following: React, Angular v4+, NodeJS, NoSQL databases, HTML5, CSS, Google Cloud Platform, or Amazon Web Services
- 3 years of understanding web services technologies such as REST, HTTPS, and JSON
Qualifications (Preferred)
- Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field
- 5 years of experience with one or more general-purpose programming languages, including but not limited to Java, Python (Django/Flask), C/C++, C#, Objective C, JavaScript, or Go
- 5 years of experience defining system architectures and exploring technical feasibility trade-offs for optimizing short-term execution while planning long-term technical capabilities
- 5 years of experience working with a variety of technology systems, designing solutions, or developing applications in healthcare
- 5 years of experience translating design mockups, prototypes, and user stories into working applications
- 5 years of ability to produce code that is fault-tolerant, efficient, and maintainable
Physical Demands
- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA and other federal, state, and local standards
- Conduct repetitive tasks on a computer, utilizing a mouse, keyboard, and monitor
- Communicate with customers/team members over the phone and in person
- Sedentary work that involves sitting or remaining stationary most of the time with occasional need to move around the office to attend meetings, etc.
Pay
$50-$60 per hour. Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including location, experience, and education.
