About the role

The Coastal Mapping Intern will support CCOM/JHC research staff with the development, assembly, preparation, deployment support, monitoring, recovery, and post-deployment handling of acoustic-based ocean research instruments and related structural lander systems. This position provides hands-on assistance with design/build activities, field preparation, equipment organization, and basic data acquisition support for projects that rely on reliable operation of ocean-deployed instrumentation.

Responsibilities

• Instrument Development, Assembly, and Build Support – 50%
  • Assist research and engineering staff with the development, assembly, testing, and refinement of acoustic-based instruments and related components.
  • Support basic fabrication, wiring, mounting, labeling, inventory, and preparation tasks associated with instrument build-out and field readiness.
  • Help document configurations, parts, procedures, and lessons learned to support repeatable instrument preparation and deployment workflows.
• Field Deployment, Monitoring, and Recovery Support – 30%
  • Provide supervised support for deployment, monitoring, and recovery activities associated with acoustic instruments and lander systems.
  • Assist with equipment transport, setup, checklists, field notes, safety practices, and post-recovery handling of instruments and hardware.
• Data Acquisition and General Project Support – 20%
  • Support basic data acquisition activities, instrument status checks, file organization, and transfer of field or test data as directed.
  • Assist with workspace organization, tool and equipment tracking, cleaning, troubleshooting support, and other project tasks needed to advance research operations.

Pay

$15.00/hour
