About the role

The East Side Union High School District (ESUHSD) is seeking a skilled and passionate Crafts Coach to collaborate with the Visual Arts Instructor in supporting and enhancing classroom instruction. This role assists students in developing hands-on skills across a wide range of craft disciplines, including fiber arts, assemblage, leather-working, pottery, sculpting, wire working, woodworking, screen printing, and related practices.

Responsibilities

  • Assist students in the design and creation of craft-based projects using a variety of materials and techniques across multiple disciplines.
  • Demonstrate safe and proper use of tools, equipment, and specialized materials across craft areas (e.g., looms, kilns, woodworking tools, printing equipment).
  • Support classroom management and monitor student progress under the direction of the Visual Arts Instructor.
  • Encourage creativity, experimentation, and critical thinking through exploration of diverse craft practices.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean, organized, and safety-compliant studio environment.
  • Collaborate with the instructor to adapt projects and techniques to meet diverse student needs and skill levels.
  • Complete required district onboarding and clearance requirements prior to providing services.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of one or more craft disciplines such as fiber arts, ceramics, sculpture, woodworking, metalwork, leather-working, screen printing, or mixed media.
  • Familiarity with a variety of tools, materials, and processes used in both traditional and contemporary craft practices.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
  • Organizational skills to effectively manage tools, materials, and shared studio resources.
  • Ability to model safe studio practices and maintain a structured learning environment.
  • Experience working with high school students preferred, particularly with multilingual learners or at-risk youth.

  • Selected candidates must pass fingerprint clearance and provide current TB test results prior to employment.
