About the role

Under direction of the Director of Independent Living, the Life Skills Coach provides individualized one-on-one guidance and small group life skills education to youth in the Independent Living Program. The role provides hands-on support and instruction to youth in their living space or in the community to promote independent living skills that complement the youth's individualized goals and discharge plan. The Life Skills Coach participates in general program activities including but not limited to apartment set-ups, apartment check-ins, transportation and team meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Provide life skills coaching to youth at least one hour per week, one or more times per week, as determined by the team
  • Conduct life skill development assessments, using approved assessment methods
  • Provide psychosocial activities to meet the youth's needs, as specified by the assessment and Treatment Plan, and to support developmentally appropriate functioning of the youth
  • Consult with the youth's case manager and therapist (if applicable), to determine appropriate resources and support for the youth
  • Provide transportation for youth as needed
  • Complete case notes and documentation of services within set timeframes
  • Attend treatment-related meetings such as school meetings, service plan reviews, team meetings, etc.
  • Attend required training to enhance skills and knowledge
  • Assure services are provided in accordance with the social teachings of the Catholic Church

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Services field OR Associate's Degree with a minimum of 1 year of experience working with at-risk youth OR High School Diploma (or equivalent) with a minimum of 3 years' experience working with at-risk youth
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practices
  • Chauffeur's License – required upon hire
  • First Aid/CPR – required upon hire
  • Safe Environment Program – Archdiocese of St. Louis
