About the Role

Instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for them to realize individual and team success. Provide instruction that fosters moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline, and self-confidence.

Responsibilities

  • Have a thorough knowledge of all athletic policies approved by the YISD Board of Education and existing district and UIL regulations; implement and interpret them consistently.
  • Understand and follow the proper administrative line of command.
  • Establish the fundamental philosophy, skills, and techniques to be taught by staff.
  • Conduct clinics and staff meetings; delegate duties, supervise implementation, and analyze staff effectiveness.
  • Train and inform staff, encouraging professional growth through clinic attendance.
  • Maintain discipline and work to increase morale and cooperation.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the principal or athletic director.
  • Assist the athletic director with scheduling, transportation, and requirements for tournaments and special sports events.
  • Prepare for scheduled sport events or practices and adhere to facility times.
  • Coordinate programs with maintenance and school employees.
  • Provide documentation for state and district requirements (physical examinations, parent consent, insurance, eligibility, etc.).
  • Ensure proper safeguards for maintenance and protection of assigned equipment and facilities.
  • Communicate training rules and sport-specific regulations to athletes.
  • Monitor students' grades and conduct.
  • Be present at all practices, games, and while traveling to provide assistance, guidance, and safeguards for participants.
  • Implement programs and policies concerning injuries, medical attention, and emergencies.
  • Direct students, managers, assistants, and statisticians.
  • Determine discipline as needed.

Requirements

  • Part-time seasonal position for a college/university student enrolled in at least six credited hours.
  • Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport; must stay updated on new theories and procedures.
  • Fall 2026 class schedule from an accredited college/university required for sports between July and December 2026.
  • Spring 2027 class schedule from an accredited college/university required for sports between January and June 2027.
  • Ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.
