About the Role
Prepare and serve appropriate quantities of food to meet meal requirements while maintaining high standards of quality in food production, sanitation, safety practices, and customer service.
Responsibilities
- Assist with preparing food using standardized recipes, accurate measurements, and correct food preparation techniques.
- Prepare food according to time schedules to meet deadlines and monitor food quality during preparation.
- Assist with arranging food and beverage items for serving students and staff in an efficient and presentable manner.
- Assist with serving correct food portions using acceptable sanitation techniques, maintaining correct holding temperatures, and utilizing food merchandising techniques. Accurately report amounts of food used and leftovers.
- Clean utensils, equipment, and building areas (e.g., carts, dishes, pans, tables, counters, storage, food preparation, and serving areas) to maintain orderly, clean, and sanitary conditions.
- Perform cashiering duties to complete meal transactions, secure funds for reimbursement, and reconcile bank deposits.
- Assist with preparing documentation (e.g., production records) to provide written support for meals prepared and served.
- Stock food, condiments, and supplies to maintain adequate quantities and security of items.
- Interact positively with students, faculty, administration, and others.
- Foster a harmonious team environment by assisting coworkers with scheduled work demands.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Child Nutrition Coordinator to fill in for absenteeism or unexpected special events.
- Perform additional duties as requested.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Food Service Experience preferred.
- Ability to understand food preparation and safety instructions.
- Working knowledge of kitchen equipment and food production procedures.
- Ability to operate large and small kitchen equipment and tools.
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations.
- Ability to work as part of a team and handle interruptions.
Working Conditions / Physical Requirements
The role requires significant physical demands, including:
- Lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling.
- Stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling.
- Fine finger dexterity.
Generally, the job requires 5% sitting, 45% walking, and 50% standing. Capable of lifting up to 30 pounds. Occasional exposure to fumes, airborne particles, extreme cold, and extreme heat.
