CNC Technician (1st Shift)

Responsibilities

• Develop CNC Programs both manually and by using software to ensure efficient, cost-effective machining of parts.
• Set-up, adjust, and troubleshoot CNC, Lathes, and Vertical Mills to produce parts according to company quality requirements.
• Operate in-line gauging and interpret readings accurately.
• Participate in team problem-solving and preventative/corrective actions.
• Collaborate with maintenance, Tool & Die, quality, and engineering personnel on production parts and continuous improvement projects.
• Perform and coordinate tooling preventative maintenance.
• Train and assist CNC Operators in insert changes, tool changes, and robot teaching.
• Ensure set-ups and repairs minimize downtime, scrap, and tooling costs.
• Produce parts to close tolerances, specifications, and deadlines to maintain high productivity.
• Report all non-conformances to the Supervisor/Manager.
• Support the implementation of MAFACT and participate as needed.
• Adhere to safety standards outlined in the Occupational Health and Safety Act and plant standards.
• Report problems affecting department operations to your supervisor.
• Engage in continuous improvement activities, including driving CIPs and submitting improvement suggestions (CI, Safety).
• Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures, including IATF16949, ISO14001 (EMS), and the Employee Handbook.
• Manage multiple projects and deliverables while treating team members with dignity and respect, in line with the Magna Employee’s Charter and Common Values.
• Follow MIOSHA and MPTSH safety regulations, wear required P.P.E., and report unsafe conditions.

Requirements

• High School diploma or G.E.D required.
• Minimum five (5) years of CNC Programming and Set-up experience.
• Working knowledge of G-Code programming and operations (journeyman card preferred).
• Advanced knowledge of machining fundamentals, including turning and milling.
• Experience in production machining, including lathe, mill, and induction hardening.
• CMM experience is an asset.
• Knowledge of hand tools, assembly processes, measuring equipment, basic SPC, and safety legislation.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD or MasterCam preferred.
• Blueprint reading is required.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Must be able to teach robot positions, replace tool bars and inserts, and perform work holding.
• Willingness to attend required training and educational classes to enhance skills.
• Excellent attendance and performance record.
• Ability to work overtime, weekends, and be flexible with shifts.

Skills

• Language Skills: Ability to read, comprehend, and document instructions in English. Must communicate effectively in both written and spoken English.
• Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations, compute rates, ratios, and percentages.
• Computer Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and ability to create spreadsheets. Prior experience with AS400 Database software preferred.
• Reasoning Skills: Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to solve problems involving several concrete variables.
• Communication Skills: Ability to use active listening and assertive communication. Ability to provide positive and constructive feedback.
• Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to apply 5 Why methodology, analyze problems, research root causes, and develop robust solutions. Ability to make decisions based on available information.
