CNC Programmer II/Set Up Operator

Our Performance Center in Carson, CA supports our Human Machine Interface, Motion Control Device, and Radio Frequency (RF) product lines.

Responsibilities

• Analyzes drawings, sketches, and design data to determine dimension and configuration of cuts, select cutting tools, and set machine speeds and feed rates.
• Creates and evaluates tool designs, coordinates with engineering for necessary changes, and designs machine holding fixtures for parts.
• Computes angular and linear dimensions, radii, and curvatures, outlines sequence of operations, prepares geometric layouts using SOLIDWORKS/MILLCAM software, and writes instruction sheets, check sheets, and cutter lists.
• Writes programs for multi-axis CNC milling & lathe machines, sets up CNC mills, lathes, grinders, or other CNC machinery according to blueprints, job orders, and tooling instructions, ensuring proper calibration and tool selection.
• Inputs and verifies CNC programs, tests machine operations, troubleshoots programming or mechanical issues, inspects finished parts to ensure they meet specifications, performs first-piece inspections, and adjusts machine settings as needed.
• Conducts routine maintenance, replaces worn tooling, performs preventative maintenance to prevent production delays, records setup procedures, monitors production runs, and reports nonconforming conditions to supervisors.
• Mentors other operators, evaluates and resolves process issues, initiates continuous improvement ideas, writes standard operations instructions, and operates all CNC machines in the facility.
• Compares computer printouts with original program sheets to ensure accuracy of machine instructions, revises programs to eliminate errors or omissions, uses NC plot software to prove out tool paths, and resolves CNC program and manufacturing issues with relevant departments.

Requirements

• Strong knowledge of SOLIDWORKS/MILLCAM, parametric programming (MACROS), Solid Works & AutoCAD preferred.
• Experience with Haas machines with Renishaw probing preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
• Ability to manage numerous projects and meet deadlines as required.
• Strong analytical and communication skills and meticulous work habits.
• Pleasant personality, must interact with all levels of personnel.
• Overtime and weekend work as needed to support manufacturing.
• Read and understand internal procedures and policies.
• Team-oriented with a continuous improvement outlook.
• Works independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong use of new screens, reports, functions, and simple software programs with assistance.
• Strong use of shop math skills, including addition, subtraction of whole numbers and time intervals, and trigonometry.
• Strong understanding of machinery setup, tool selection, and machine calibration.
• Ability to troubleshoot machine issues, optimize production efficiency, and maintain quality standards.
• Three years machining background required.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; up to 3 - 5 years related experience in job function and/or training; equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Competence in basic arithmetic, geometry, and trigonometry; ability to calculate feed rates, speeds, and dimensions.

Skills

• Strong use of new screens, reports, functions, and simple software programs with assistance.
• Strong use of shop math skills, including addition, subtraction of whole numbers and time intervals, and trigonometry.
