CNC Programmer & Engineering Tech Support

About the role
Raytheon’s Systems Engineering and Test Capabilities in El Segundo, California is seeking an experienced Prototype CNC Programmer-Machinist for their in-house Prototyping Machine Shop. This position will utilize communication and technical skills to create solutions that meet demanding engineering standards and tolerances in support of many RTX programs and businesses. You will be instrumental in optimizing machining processes, driving continuous improvement, and contributing to the successful alignment of program standards.
Responsibilities
- Develop CNC programs for 1-off and short-run prototype parts, work-holding, and rework based off drawings, models, or simple sketches
- Create setup sheets and job travelers for machinists to follow
- Prioritize and track jobs and their progress within the shop
- Support and work with machinists to determine best methods and process practices to produce successful parts or reworked parts that meet design requirements
- Provide feedback to engineers about drawings, producibility, and develop solutions achievable within the abilities of the Shop
- Lead and train other machinists with general shop workflow, workload, and task scheduling
- Collaborate with in-house GD&T Inspection to validate parts against drawing requirements
- Become integrated into the machine shop team through collaborative communication, planning, and execution
- Perform general shop upkeep, organization, cleanliness, and planning
- Perform machining as needed to support shop workflow and scheduling
Requirements
- Typically requires an AA/AS degree (or other 2-year post high school training) with a minimum of 8 years CNC programming in a prototype environment
- Experience in creating machined parts and assemblies from engineering drawings or CAD models
- Experience in fixture, tooling, and work-holding design
- Experience as a Shop Lead or Lead Machinist
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using MasterCAM and 4th axis in a prototype environment, including programming waterjet cutter and laser cutter
- Experience as a prototype machinist using all shop machines (CNC and conventional)
- Experience in cutting tool geometries including rake angles, relief angles, edge preparation, and their impact on surface finishes
- High proficiency in ASME Y14.5-2009 GD&T standards, specific to aerospace manufacturing
- Knowledge and experience with machine maintenance, upkeep, and servicing, specifically CNC machine centers and waterjet systems
- Experience training and leading new employees
- Ability to autonomously produce a part from raw stock to finished product (determining processes, tools, setups, work holding to use)
- Experience in quick turn/agile methods and creative solutions to meet schedule
- Experience in rework and repair of non-conforming parts of extremely high value or irreplaceable parts
- Proficiency in common office software tools, job tracker tools, and drawing databases
- Experience working on a team and enhancing the team environment

Pay
The salary range for this role is 95,500 USD - 181,700 USD.
