We are looking for a talented CNC Programmer to join our team in Hillsboro, OR. The CNC Programmer is responsible for developing, optimizing, and supporting CNC machining processes to produce complex, high-precision components that meet stringent quality and dimensional requirements. This role involves interpreting engineering drawings and GD&T specifications, developing machining setups, calculating tooling and offsets, and ensuring efficient production across a variety of materials, including stainless steel and exotic alloys. The CNC Programmer validates part quality, maintains process documentation, troubleshoots machining issues, and drives productivity and scrap reduction goals to support safe, efficient, and reliable manufacturing operations while ensuring compliance with customer and engineering specifications.
Responsibilities
- Read prints, perform complex dimensional calculations, and understand geometric dimensioning and tolerances (GD&T).
- Determine tool wear, perform tool changes, and calculate tool offsets.
- Maintain dimensional tolerances less than or equal to +/- .001.
- Use all standard measurement tools to determine part quality.
- Calculate slopes, angles, and perform complex inspection setups.
- Perform simple setups with assistance for jobs with single or multiple operations having tolerances greater than +/- .001.
- Load, unload, and inspect parts.
- Maintain accurate part counts, update router paperwork, segregate parts as required, and fill out SPC documentation.
- Ensure the quality of parts being produced and achieve production standards.
- Deburr and polish parts at the machine on some work.
- Report any equipment problems.
- Understand and follow documented operator and setup procedures.
- Maintain machine and area housekeeping, including cleaning the machine, removing chips, and moving material and parts as necessary.
- Achieve efficiency standards exceeding 100% and maintain scrap rates under 1%.
- Set up jobs without supervision, working with aluminum, stainless steel, and other exotic materials. (Parts are highly complex and can include many angled surfaces, pockets, steps, tapers, and related features on different planes. Parts will usually require more than one operation, and loading schemes will be very complex.)
- Perform other duties as assigned; responsibilities may change at any time with or without notice.
Requirements
- Ability to read and understand drawings, including geometric dimensioning and tolerances (GD&T).
- Proficiency with precision measurement tools.
- Ability to maintain accurate part counts.
- Knowledge of tooling and inserts.
- Ability to determine tool wear, dull and broken tools, and change tools.
- Ability to calculate tool offsets.
- Ability to maintain close tolerances.
- Knowledge of math, including algebra and geometry.
- Basic program knowledge.
- 1+ years of setup experience.
- Tool setup and tool maintenance knowledge.
- Safety knowledge.
- Previous experience in a company with ISO implementation.
- Ability to perform SPC control.
Qualifications
- High School Graduate or equivalent.
- Machine shop training certificate preferred.
- 4+ years of machine shop programming experience on any manual or CNC milling equipment.
- 5 or more years of machine shop experience with pertinent CNC milling experience.
