About the Role

A CNC Programmer is responsible for writing and optimizing programs for CNC Machines, interpreting blueprints, and ensuring precision in the manufacturing process.

Responsibilities

  • Write and optimize CNC programs to guide machines in performing tasks such as cutting, milling, and drilling according to engineering specifications.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints to create CNC programs.
  • Set up machines, load raw materials, and adjust machine settings as needed.
  • Test and perform quality control, making necessary adjustments to ensure efficiency and quality of the final products.
  • Translate programming logic into machine-readable format using specific programming languages.
  • Modify software after delivery.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers and machinists to evaluate project requirements and resolve issues related to machine setup or program performance.
  • Maintain records of machine specifications, programming notes, and production processes.
  • Use CAM software and machine software to write code for part production within a reasonable time frame.
  • Determine the best machine, strategy, tools, and work holding to complete parts.
  • Determine optimal feeds and speeds based on tooling manufacturer recommendations or expert experience.
  • Document tooling used in the form of a tool list/setup sheet with designated pot/turret positions (tool type, nose radius, RH/LH, holder projection, program name/part number, and other pertinent information). Provide both paper and electronic formats.
  • Log into MES under the job number before starting the job and note "Programming/setup" upon completion.
  • Work independently to set up machine tools and run the first article.
  • Set up tooling, load programs, and verify program effectiveness, making immediate changes and updating documentation if necessary.
  • Verify dimensional accuracy and required surface finishes of produced parts.
  • Clean and deburr parts as necessary.
  • Note and document tool life per part, recommending insert or tooling change-out intervals.
  • Maintain documentation, job travelers, and part identification.
  • Label parts with required documentation and call for quality control as necessary.
  • Move completed and approved parts to the next staging area.
  • Close the job in MES when completed.
  • Instruct machine operators on the developed process and all pertinent information, ensuring they have the job traveler and required paperwork.
  • Advise on inspection intervals (e.g., 100% inspection, every other part, every 5 parts).
  • Keep work areas clean and organized, putting tools away and removing all trash and scrap materials.
  • Store any tools or tooling removed from the machine during setup.
  • Research and request quotes for any special tooling needed for a job, including CC’ing your manager for approvals and ordering.

Requirements

  • A degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field.
  • Previous experience as a CNC Programmer or in a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of various programming languages and frameworks.
  • Proficiency in Mastercam software and a solid understanding of blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Ability to analyze problems and develop effective solutions.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective team collaboration.
  • Focus, professional mannerism, mathematical skills, and comprehension of written and verbal instructions.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and/or walk for up to 8 hours per day.
  • Ability to work on a computer for up to 8 hours a day.
  • Mindful of safety and use proper PPE when required.

Pay

$65,000.00–$95,000.00 per year.
