CNC Operator (First Shift)

Responsibilities

• Operate CNC machines independently with minimal supervision.
• Make minor offset adjustments and/or tool changes to maintain part conformance to print.
• Troubleshoot CNC horizontal and vertical mills, lathes, and perform setups and tool changes as required.
• Monitor tool life and check parts, placing them correctly on equipment or gauging stations.
• Operate online gauging and interpret readings.
• Meet production requirements efficiently and fill out production sheets and related documents.
• Monitor SPC/quality and document updates.
• Perform related labor such as cleaning, setting up, and organizing.
• Assist material handlers as required and provide direction to Production Operators.
• Support the Environmental Management System and objectives.
• Complete and maintain required paperwork, including white boards, quality checks, production reporting forms, MAFACT, die setup sheets, and checklists.
• Work with Engineering and MAFACT teams to develop and implement standardized work for processes.
• Perform audits to ensure adherence to standardized work and initiate corrective measures for non-standardized work.
• Maintain daily team board updates.
• Ensure all safety and quality start-up procedures are followed.
• Produce quality parts according to customer specifications.
• Follow standardized work instructions and perform quality checks using gauges and measuring devices as outlined in the control plan.
• Make necessary adjustments and ensure process tags are properly completed.
• Ensure all containers are properly labeled.
• Report injuries, accidents, equipment malfunctions, or property damage to the Supervisor.
• Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the work area (5S).
• Communicate with team members (Supervisor, Leader, Quality, Co-workers) regarding machine issues.
• Identify the cause of issues and notify the appropriate team member (Maintenance, Quality).
• Stop the process if it does not meet quality and/or safety requirements and notify Supervisor/Quality immediately.
• Train new employees on all aspects of the job as needed.
• Attend and participate in team and employee meetings, including MAFACT meetings.
• Report to another job or task as directed by the Supervisor/Leader if the assigned job is down.
• Participate in continuous improvement activities and submit improvement suggestions (CI, Safety).
• Ensure adherence to company policies and procedures, including TS16949, ISO14001 (EMS), and the Employee Handbook.
• Follow MIOSHA and MPTSH safety regulations and policies, including lockout/tagout and wearing required P.P.E.
• Report unsafe conditions to Supervisor/Leader.

Requirements

• High School diploma or G.E.D.
• 2-3 years of CNC Operating experience.
• Ability to use gauges, change tools, make offsets/changes, and perform program changeovers.
• Advanced knowledge of machining fundamentals (e.g., turning, milling).
• Good shop math skills.
• Results-oriented team player with excellent attendance, high energy, and strong attention to detail.
• Demonstrates creativity, initiative, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work overtime or alternate shifts as required.

Skills

• Language Skills: Ability to read, write, and comprehend instructions in English, including safety rules and operating instructions. Ability to document forms as required.
• Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
• Computer Skills: Knowledge of AS400 and ability to use a bar code labeling system.
• Reasoning Skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to handle problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
