About the role
We design and manufacture components, instruments, and systems that transform the world by identifying, enabling, and accelerating key photonics (light-based) technologies. This position is responsible for the operation of various types of CNC machines and manual equipment in compliance with inch and metric drawing specifications. You will ensure the proper use and maintenance of all measuring tools and devices used in inspection of components, working under general supervision. Although based in Newton, NJ, occasional duties may be required at other Thorlabs locations.
Responsibilities
- Operate various CNC machines in compliance with inch and metric drawing specifications.
- Monitor and inspect machined components for accuracy against specified standards on drawings.
- Operate manual mills, lathes, and other secondary equipment as needed.
- Maintain general housekeeping in the work area, including preventative maintenance on CNC machines.
- Meet company standards for quantity and quality of work performed on an ongoing basis.
- Adhere to company policies, procedures, and directives regarding workplace behavior.
Requirements
- Minimum 1-2 years of experience in a similar position preferred, plus training in CNC programming.
- High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent work experience.
- CNC certification or CNC trade school is a plus.
- General understanding of blueprint reading and geometric tolerancing is a plus.
- Strong sense of ownership, work ethic, and written/verbal communication skills.
- Proficient computer skills.
- Ability to work well in a group atmosphere with minimal supervision and comply with high-quality standards.
- Ability to shift tasks quickly to address changing production priorities.
Physical Activities
- Work may be active, involving standing or sitting for long durations and/or performing repetitious tasks.
- May lift or move objects up to 20 pounds.
- Must grasp, manipulate, or assemble small parts and components.
- Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but may be noisy at times.
- Must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as masks, glasses, gloves, and specialty garments.
- Safe handling and processing of chemicals like adhesives, lubricants, and solvents, as well as safe operation of job-related equipment and tools.
Pay
Hourly pay range for this position is $20.00 - $28.00 depending on experience.
Schedule
Hours for this position are 5:45 AM - 2:15 PM, Monday - Friday, with overtime available.
