About the Role

Responsibilities

• Operate CNC machines independently with minimal supervision.
• Make minor offset adjustments and/or tool changes to maintain part conformance to print.
• Troubleshoot CNC horizontal and vertical mills, lathes, and perform setups and tool changes as required.
• Monitor tool life and check parts, placing them correctly on equipment or gauging stations.
• Operate online gauging and interpret readings accurately.
• Meet production requirements in a timely and efficient manner.
• Complete production sheets, SPC/quality documentation, and other related forms.
• Perform labor tasks such as cleaning, setting up, and organizing the work area.
• Assist material handlers and provide direction to Production Operators assigned to the job.
• Support the Environmental Management System and objectives.
• Maintain required paperwork, including white boards, quality checks, production reporting forms, MAFACT, die setup sheets, and checklists.
• Collaborate with Engineering and MAFACT teams to develop and implement standardized work processes.
• Perform audits to ensure adherence to standardized work and initiate corrective measures for non-compliance.
• Ensure all safety and quality start-up procedures are followed.
• Produce quality parts according to customer specifications and review standardized work instructions.
• Perform quality checks using gauges and other measuring devices as outlined in the control plan.
• Make necessary adjustments and ensure process tags are properly completed throughout production.
• Label all containers correctly and report injuries, accidents, or equipment malfunctions to the Supervisor.
• Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the work area (5S).
• Communicate effectively with team members (Supervisor, Leader, Quality, Co-workers) regarding machine issues.
• Understand the root cause of issues and identify the appropriate team member to inform (Maintenance, Quality).
• Stop the process if it does not meet quality or safety requirements and notify Supervisor/Quality immediately.
• Train new employees on all aspects of the job as needed.
• Attend and participate in team and employee meetings, including MAFACT meetings.
• Report to alternative tasks as directed by Supervisor/Leader if the assigned job is down.
• Participate in continuous improvement activities and submit improvement suggestions (CI, Safety).
• Adhere to company policies and procedures, including TS16949, ISO14001 (EMS), and the Employee Handbook.
• Follow MIOSHA and MPTSH safety regulations, including lockout/tagout and wearing required PPE.
• Report unsafe conditions to Supervisor/Leader.

Requirements

• High School diploma or G.E.D.
• 2-3 years of CNC Operating experience.
• Ability to use gauges, change tools, make offsets/changes, and perform program changeovers.
• Advanced knowledge of machining fundamentals (e.g., turning, milling).
• Strong shop math skills.
• Results-oriented team player with excellent attendance, high energy, and attention to detail.
• Demonstrated creativity, initiative, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work overtime or alternate shifts as required.

Skills

• Language Skills: Ability to read, write, and comprehend instructions in English, including safety rules and operating instructions. Ability to document forms as required.
• Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages.
• Computer Skills: Knowledge of AS400 and ability to use a bar code labeling system.
• Reasoning Skills: Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to handle problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Physical Demands

• Frequently required to stand, walk, speak, listen, and reach with hands and arms.
• Occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision and color vision.

Work Environment

• Work environment is on the plant floor, regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.
• Noise level is usually moderate to loud.
