What You Will Do

  • Programs, sets up, and operates CNC milling center to perform multiple machining and cutting operations.
  • May operate automatically or manually.
  • Performs the job of CNC mill operator in its entirety, as needed.
  • Sets up and operates machine at correct feeds and speeds, following standard operating procedures, producing good pieces within specified quality control limits as per blueprints, process plans, holding fixtures, location diagrams, etc.
  • Loads work and control tape and trial runs jobs.
  • Manually programs machine.
  • Performs inspection of parts indicating, takes corrective action and repositions, as required, to produce within specifications.
  • Receives direction from foreman or leader.

Specific Duties

  • Prior to operating CNC milling center, moves parts away from machine for pickup by material handler.
  • Checks to see that there is sufficient stock to proceed and that stock is correct for parts to be run.
  • Ensures product quality meets and/or exceeds specifications.
  • Participates in operator training programs as a trainee or the trainer.

Set Up

  • Obtains all necessary tooling called for on layout sheet.
  • Obtains correct drawings and specifications from department office.
  • Removes old set up.
  • Following prescribed procedure, installs new tooling to operate mill center at specified feeds and speeds, and to produce work of quality specifications.
  • Removes finished pieces and installs material, as needed.
  • Makes test run and checks dimensions against drawing specifications.
  • Obtains verification of test results from foreman or leader.

Other Duties

  • Inspects and gauges parts at intervals determined by foreman for that particular job.
  • Detects and reports faulty machine operation, defective material and equipment, drawing discrepancies, and other unusual conditions to foreman.
  • Oils and greases machine, replaces coolant, and replaces tooling, as required.
  • Maintains work place area in a neat and orderly condition on a daily basis, and performs a general machine and work area cleanup once a week.
  • Makes out time, production, and quality reports, as necessary.
  • Collaborates with operators from other shifts to transmit and exchange information pertinent to work at hand.
  • Observes all safety regulations in all duties performed.
  • Performs all other duties, as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Tool & Die Makers Certificate or 5 Years (min) Tool Room Experience.
  • Physical Requirements: Visual acuity for detailed work. Must be able to stand for a minimum of 8 hrs. per day. Occasional lifting of up to 30 - 40 lbs, from floor to waist.
