CNC Mill Machinist - 2nd Shift

About the role

Avalign is seeking a CNC Mill Operator to join our Greenwood, IN facility on a 2nd shift schedule. You will operate 3-axis or 4-axis Haas Mills to perform various machine functions, such as cutting, drilling, milling, reaming, boring, and broaching of metallic and nonmetallic work pieces.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret blueprints, planning sheets, sketches, and related technical data to determine tooling requirements, setup procedures, control settings, and machining methods and sequences.
• Prepare tools needed for machining operations.
• Verify that fixture setup meets acceptable quality standards regarding milling and boring sizes, depths, angles, or other specifications.
• Mount, align, and secure tooling, attachments, and work-piece on machine; assemble cutting tools in tool holders and position tool holders in machine magazines.
• Load control media, such as tape, card, or disk, in machine controller or enter commands to retrieve preprogrammed instructions from database.
• Calculate and set machine controls to position spindle in relationship to work piece and to regulate factors such as cutting depth, speed, feed, and coolant flow.
• Conduct prove-outs and manual programming during setups; only when approved by Supervisor.
• Start machine and monitor displays and machine operation to detect malfunctions.
• Stop machine to change cutting tools and setup according to required machining sequence or to measure parts for conformance to blueprint specifications.
• Enter commands or manually adjust machine controls to correct malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining.
• Operate machine manually to perform non-automated functions and when automatic programming is faulty or machine malfunctions.
• Discuss control media errors with supervisor or programming personnel to resolve problems.
• Clean machine, tooling, and parts; perform machine maintenance as needed or required.
• Adhere to established company policies and procedures paying special attention to safety regulations; wear personal protective equipment in accordance with safety and training guidelines.
• Help train new employees as required.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• 1 year of related experience and/or training.
• Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
• Mathematical skills to manage units of measure, fractions, decimals, whole numbers.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and operations sheets to determine set-up and operations to be formed.
• Ability to set-up and operate CNC machinery, input and maintain data in Traverse Manufacturing System.
