Lead and coordinate 3rd-shift CNC machining operations to deliver high-quality precision parts on schedule. This role combines hands-on CNC programming and operation with leadership responsibilities to mentor machinists, drive continuous improvement, and ensure safe, efficient production in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, program, set up, and troubleshoot CNC machines to produce precision parts to specification (focus on milling and turning operations).
  • Lead and mentor 3rd-shift machinists: assign duties, provide training, evaluate performance, and foster a continuous-improvement mindset.
  • Review engineering drawings and work orders to verify specifications, tolerances, and tooling requirements.
  • Use MasterCAM and other CAM tools to create, edit, and optimize CNC programs for efficiency and part quality.
  • Perform and oversee first-article inspections and in-process quality checks using micrometers, calipers, and other measuring tools; document results and implement corrective actions when needed.
  • Maintain accurate production records, tooling logs, and setup documentation; communicate status and issues to 1st/2nd shift leads and engineering.
  • Ensure safe material handling and rigging practices; operate or supervise forklift use and enforce shop safety protocols.
  • Troubleshoot machine issues and coordinate maintenance or repairs to minimize downtime.
  • Implement and support lean manufacturing initiatives, suggest process improvements, and help reduce waste and cycle times.
  • Assist in maintaining inventory of tooling, cutters, gauges, and consumables; request purchases as required.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of hands-on CNC machining experience (mill, lathe, router operating experience).
  • Demonstrated experience with precision measuring tools: micrometers, calipers, tape measures, and other inspection equipment.

Qualifications (Preferred)

  • 6+ years CNC experience.
  • Leadership experience supervising or leading shop personnel on a manufacturing shift.
  • Mastercam experience.
  • CNC programming experience.
  • Knowledge of safe rigging practices and forklift operation; relevant certifications preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to coordinate across shifts and with engineering, quality, and maintenance teams.
