CNC Machinist II

About the role
Sets up and operates machine shop equipment, including manual Vertical Mills, Lathes, Drills, with CNC experience.
Responsibilities
- Operate all equipment by following all safety rules, including Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE), machine guarding, hazard communications, etc.
- Study blueprints, sketches, drawings, or specifications to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
- Perform a wide range of turning, facing, chamfering, cutting off, and similar machining operations on a variety of castings, parts, special orders, rework, re-machining, etc., of various materials.
- Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent machining.
- Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, etc.
- Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, depth, and angle of cut.
- Start and observe machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjust machine controls or control media as required.
- Verify conformance of finished workpiece to specifications.
- Set up and operate machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings.
- Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
- Report all unusual conditions to supervisor.
- Requires visibility to controlled documents.
Requirements
- High School Diploma and up to 2–5 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Mathematical skills to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to stand and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
- Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms.
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and pull up to 50 pounds (varies by operator preference, part, and machine).
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
- Regularly works near moving mechanical parts.
- Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, depending on the shop workload.
Pay
Equal Pay Act Range: $26.76 to $28.90 per hour, plus benefits and potential bonus.
