About the Role

The CNC Machinist II produces machined parts by operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine while maintaining quality and safety standards, keeping records, and maintaining equipment and supplies. This role operates within Tecomet's principles of continuous improvement, customer-driven innovation, and a win-first culture, meeting company financial and performance metrics.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and set up CNC machines within specified tolerances following work instructions, machine programs, and engineering drawings.
  • Perform complex CNC machining work, including progressive machining of a variety of parts and metals with very close tolerances.
  • Change dull tooling and make minor offsets or adjustments for tooling wear.
  • Ensure product quality by adhering to operator-owned quality (OOQ) standards, using measuring equipment, and interpreting readings.
  • Perform routine maintenance as per the daily machine checklist and adhere to the PM schedule.
  • Perform hand finishing.
  • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Good Document Practices (GDP), including completing job routers/cards.
  • Ensure safe working practices to minimize risks and report Safety, Health, and Environmental issues.
  • Achieve productivity targets and identify ways to improve productivity.
  • Record all activities in a timely manner using the job tracking system.
  • Support Continuous Improvement activities.
  • Identify and escalate manufacturing issues to the Team Leader or Supervisor and participate in resolution as required.
  • Maintain 5S/housekeeping standards within the work area.
  • Perform other duties or special projects as assigned by a supervisor.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • 3+ years of CNC Machining experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or certificate in Tooling & Machining or a Machinist apprenticeship.
  • Experience working in a production environment.
  • GCSE/NVQ Math and English (UK only).

Skills

  • Ability to operate, set up, and maintain CNC machines.
  • Ability to run multiple CNC machines.
  • Strong math skills, including measuring and record-keeping.
  • Effective planning, prioritization, and organization of tasks within specified timescales.
  • Ability to follow work instructions.
  • Proven record of quality, on-time production runs.
  • Commitment to safety at all times.
  • Attention to detail and ability to perform repeatable tasks over prolonged periods.
  • Positive attitude, reliability, and teamwork.
  • Problem identification and escalation.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Solid computer skills.

Work Environment

The role involves standing, walking, using hands to handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms, and talking or hearing. The employee may occasionally sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The role may require lifting or moving up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
