About the role

The CNC Operator runs machining centers in crankcase manufacturing, machining crankcases to exact specifications with in-process quality assurance. The role offers a clear development path: it starts with line boring (no prior CNC experience required) and grows into CNC machining on Burkhardt & Weber (B&W) machines, with increasing responsibility and pay as operators progress.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and machine crankcases according to specifications, routings, control plans, and drawings on the line boring machine and, at the advanced level, on Burkhardt & Weber (B&W) machining centers with Sinumerik One control system
  • Bore and align the bearing alleys of the crankcase, including the camshaft and crankshaft bores, re-boring as required to achieve precise alignment
  • Clamp, reclamp, and unclamp crankcases; monitor the process and correct as necessary
  • Monitor, change, correct, and adjust tools as required
  • Study machining instructions, routings, control plans, job orders, and blueprints to determine dimensional and finish specifications, sequences of operations, machine setups, and tooling requirements

Requirements

  • Entry level, line boring: Completed vocational training as a machine and plant operator or a comparable qualification, or a U.S. equivalent such as a mechanical or machining trade school certificate, an Associate's Degree, or relevant hands-on experience in a machining environment
  • Direct work as CNC Operator on the B&W machines: Completed vocational training as an industrial mechanic specializing in production technology, or a comparable 3.5-year apprenticeship in a metalworking profession, or 2 years of trade school or an equivalent Associate's Degree, or 3 years of experience in a heavy-duty machining environment; several years of experience operating NC-controlled machining centers; and knowledge of Sinumerik One control system
  • Strong quality awareness and a high sense of responsibility

  • Willingness to work shifts and occasional weekends, and the ability to work overtime as needed
  • Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. without sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience operating Burkhardt & Weber (B&W) machining centers
  • Knowledge of Sinumerik One control system
  • Several years of experience on a conventional boring mill (e.g., Collet)
  • Experience machining crankcases or large cast components
  • Intermediate knowledge of CNC controls, machines, and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance

Mental & Physical Requirements

  • Frequently required to walk, stand, sit, use hands or fingers, handle or feel objects/tools/parts/controls, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear
  • Occasionally required to balance, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception
  • May be exposed to various elements, though none present to an uncomfortable extent

Schedule

1st Shift – Monday through Thursday, 5:45am to 4:15pm (Full Time)

Pay

$25.11 - $37.67 per hour
