About the role
As the Department Leader of CNC Mill Lathe or Drill Press, you will work with supervisors to determine work procedures, prepare work schedules, and expedite workflow within the department. This position involves training and mentoring new employees, making recommendations for process improvements, and fulfilling the workload of a level III operator.
Responsibilities
- Review work center/departmental work listings to determine work procedure, prepare work schedules, and expedite workflow by collaborating with supervisors and managers.
- Inform personnel on methods and procedures for assignments.
- Perform job setups as needed.
- Maintain high quality standards and effective production rates within the department.
- Examine work of associates for exactness, neatness, and conformance to specifications.
- Train and mentor new employees.
- Review and correct errors and deficiencies in methods, procedures, and work sequences.
- Document corrections and modifications needed for set-up procedures and operation of machinery.
- Recommend adjustments to work standards and monitor their effective achievement.
- Improve efficiency through set-up reduction and problem definition and resolution.
- Fulfill the duties of a level III operator on requested machines.
- Perform other duties as required within the nature and level of work.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Seven (7) to ten (10) years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Three (3) years of work-related experience as a Level III operator.
Skills
- Knowledge of basic math skills.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand basic English.
- Ability to learn, problem-solve, and make decisions based on work instructions and documents.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to lead a team.
Physical Demand Requirements
- Occasionally required to stand, walk, or sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell.
- Must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
