The Opportunity
You'll join the Tooling Division of a stable, global industry leader as their newest CNC EDM Programmer and Operator. This is a brand-new position created to support precision tooling and component manufacturing. Working alongside engineering, tooling, and production teams, you'll program, set up, and operate wire and sinker EDM equipment to produce high-precision parts that meet exacting quality and delivery standards.
Programming and Setup
- Create, modify, and optimize CNC EDM programs (wire and/or sinker) from CAD models, prints, and process requirements
- Import and interpret 3D models and 2D drawings to define machining strategy, tool paths, and fixturing
- Select electrodes, tooling, and setups to meet dimensional and surface finish specifications
- Set up machines, fixtures, workpieces, and electrodes; establish work and tool offsets
- Perform program prove-outs on new or revised jobs, adjusting for efficiency and quality
Operation and Production
- Operate CNC EDM equipment to produce parts to print within specified tolerances and timelines
- Monitor machine performance, tool wear, and process stability; make real-time adjustments
- Perform in-process inspection using micrometers, calipers, indicators, CMM, or optical equipment
- Document machining steps, setup sheets, and process parameters for repeatability
- Cookordination with toolmakers, machinists, and engineers to resolve issues and improve manufacturability
Quality, Maintenance, and Continuous Improvement
- Ensure parts meet print, functional, and cosmetic requirements; identify and correct nonconformances
- Maintain 5S standards around EDM equipment and work areas
- Suggest and implement improvements to programs, setups, and tooling to reduce cycle times
- Support root-cause analysis and corrective actions related to tooling and EDM processes
- Perform routine EDM machine maintenance including filters, dielectric fluid checks, and basic troubleshooting
Qualifications
- 3+ years of CNC EDM programming and operating experience (wire, sinker, or both), preferably in a tooling or precision manufacturing environment
- Experience reading and interpreting complex blueprints, GD&T, and CAD models
- Proficiency with CNC EDM machines, control systems, and related CAM software
- Strong understanding of EDM machining principles, electrode selection, and process variables
- Solid knowledge of precision measurement and inspection techniques
- Able to work from engineering drawings, CAD/CAM data, and written/verbal instructions
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and mechanical aptitude
- Effective communication and teamwork skills with the ability to collaborate across departments
- Able to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs for extended periods in a manufacturing environment
