About the role

Under the direction of the Production Supervisor, the CNC Drill Operator is responsible for operating the CNC vertical mill machining centers including HAAS VF2/VF3 and Quick Mill, upright drill presses, saw, and hand drills.

Candidate can choose between Night Shift or Evenings Shift:

• Evenings 2nd Shift Standard Schedule: Monday - Friday 3PM - 11PM*
• Nights 3rd Shift Standard Schedule: Monday - Friday 11PM - 7AM*

*As needed, there will be work hours required outside the Standard Shift Schedule.

Pay

Starting Hourly Pay Rate (LG6): $24.47 + $1.00 per hour shift differential**

**Shift differential is paid when the hours are worked on an eligible shift.

Opportunity for step pay increases at 90 days, 1 year, and 2 years. Eligible for annual discretionary bonus.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret production drawings.
• Understand machine controls, program codes, fixtures and tool offsets, and CNC systems for HAAS and/or Quick Mill machines.
• Use shop mathematics, including decimals, complex fractions, and simple algebra to lay out various products and determine cutting depths, feed rates, and revolutions per minute.
• Use measuring instruments such as a protractor, framing square, tape measure, tri-square, center finder, levers, scribes, calipers, and drill gauges to fabricate various products.
• Understand material requirements and specifications as stated on blueprints and drawings.
• Decide the sequence of setups, operations, and processes within recognized methods and procedures to complete work according to schedules and constraints.
• Coordinate with other personnel in the small parts area to maintain workloads.
• Maintain housekeeping in work area and on all machines used.
• Perform operator preventive maintenance on equipment and inform supervisor of any breakdowns or damage.
• Use a digraph metal marker to write part numbers on parts for identification.
• Stack completed parts and shop packets neatly on a pallet and move them to the designated area using a pallet jack.
• Read and interpret work orders and daily production schedules.
• Write entries on daily shop production labor report to show work completed.
• Be responsible for safety and environmental issues in assigned area, including material handling, crane use, vacuum lift, cutting torch, hot parts, lifting weight limits, proper eye protection, and water table levels.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• One year or more working in a manufacturing environment.
• One year or more CNC machining experience with HAAS vertical mill.
• The ability to modify/execute simple programming for HAAS systems.
• The ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
• The ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
• The ability to accurately read a tape measure and micrometer.
• The ability to read Valmont blueprints.
• The ability to walk and stand up to 100% of the shift.
• The ability to work in an environment with a high noise level.

Qualifications

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:

• Three to five years of previous CNC machining experience with HAAS vertical mill preferred.
• Two years of previous experience working in a manufacturing environment.
• Two years of previous experience operating a forklift.
• Technical training certificate and/or degree in CNC machining.
• The ability to communicate and interact with coworkers in a positive manner.
• The ability to pay attention to detail and follow work instructions.
• High awareness for safety at all times.
• Passion and integrity with the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results.

Working Environment and Physical Efforts

• Ambient temperatures in work area coincide with seasonal weather changes.
• Exposure to metal and smoke fumes due to surrounding processes.
• Abnormal noise level throughout the shop requiring hearing protection at all times.
• Direct exposure to dirt, grease, mill scale, cutting fluid, rust inhibitors, and metal particles and splinters.
• Exposure to production facilities where specific PPE will be required such as hand, hearing, foot, eye, and head protection.
• Frequent exposure to outside elements for short periods of time, including material handling equipment such as forklifts, straddle trucks, and shag trucks.
