CNC and Set Up Machinist

Key Responsibilities

• Set up CNC machines (including tooling, fixtures, and program offsets) for production runs on iron cast components.
• Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and job orders to determine machine set-up requirements.
• Inspect initial run pieces and perform in-process inspections using measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges).
• Make machine adjustments to maintain quality and dimensional accuracy.
• Work with Quality Control and Engineering teams to resolve machining or set-up issues.
• Ensure machines are properly maintained and report any mechanical issues.
• Maintain clean and safe work area according to shop standards.
• Document setup sheets and maintain tooling inventory.
• Follow all safety procedures and company policies.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or GED is required; technical certification or apprenticeship is a plus.
• A minimum of 3 years of CNC machining experience, with at least 1 year focused on set-ups.
• Hands-on experience machining iron castings is required.
• A strong knowledge of G-code and CNC controls (e.g., Fanuc, Haas, Mazak, etc.).
• Proficiency with precision measuring tools and GD&T.
• The ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical documents.
• Good problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude.
• The ability to lift 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods.

Working Conditions

• A manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, and iron shavings.
