About the Role
CNC 5-axis machinist: skilled manufacturing professional who operates, sets up, and programs advanced computer-controlled machines capable of moving cutting tools along five axes simultaneously — three linear (X, Y, Z) and two rotational (A, B) — to produce complex, high-precision parts.
Core Responsibilities
- Machine Setup & Operation: Prepare and run 3-, 4-, or 5-axis CNC milling machines, including vertical and horizontal setups, using advanced tooling and fixtures.
- Programming & Toolpath Development: Create or modify G-code programs, often using CAM software, to generate multi-axis toolpaths for intricate geometries.
- Quality Control: Inspect parts against blueprints and specifications, ensuring tight tolerances, smooth finishes, and dimensional accuracy.
- Process Optimization: Improve machining strategies, reduce setup times, and maintain process stability for consistent quality.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve machine issues, tool wear, or dimensional deviations to keep production running smoothly.
- Material Handling: Work with challenging materials such as titanium, Inconel, stainless steel, aluminum alloys, and composites, applying appropriate cutting parameters.
Qualifications
- Proficiency in blueprint reading and G-code programming.
- Understanding of machine dynamics and tooling strategies for difficult materials.
- Ability to interpret and apply quality management system (QMS) requirements.
- Familiarity with multi-axis machining principles.
