GENERAL SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and Licensed Practical Nurse, the Certified Nurse Aide assists nurses in carrying out routine assignments, transporting and preparing residents and equipment, and keeping equipment and areas in an orderly hygienic condition.
EDUCATION
A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred. Completion of a Nurse Aide Competency Evaluation Program is required.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Six months experience as a Nurse Aide in a geriatric setting is preferred.
SPECIAL EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
- Cleared by PA State Police criminal history check
- Enrolled on the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Registry upon employment
- Must be at least 16 years old (subject to child labor law restrictions)
- CPR Certification preferred
- Good written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills required
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information
- Willingness to rotate to other units as necessary
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Heavy Work: duties require exerting 50-100 lbs. of force occasionally, 25-50 lbs. of force frequently, and 10-25 lbs. of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects.
- Ability to read, write and see
- Ability to transport self throughout facility frequently, while pushing a wheelchair
ACCIDENT OR HEALTH HAZARDS
- Occasional exposure to blood and body substances
- Possible exposure to needle sticks
WORKING CONDITIONS
Majority of work is performed in the resident living area. Work area may also include transportation van and resident external appointment sites.
