About the Role
Under the supervision of the RN Supervisor of the Transitional Care Unit, the Certified Nurse Aide assists nurses in carrying out routine assignments, transporting and preparing residents and equipment, and keeping equipment and areas in an orderly hygienic condition. The Certified Nurse Aide must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the unit.
Responsibilities
- Assist nurses in carrying out routine assignments
- Transport and prepare residents and equipment
- Maintain equipment and areas in an orderly and hygienic condition
- Provide care appropriate to the age of patients served
- Adhere to nursing policies and standards
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information
- Rotate to other units as necessary
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Completion of Nurse Aide Competency Evaluation Program
- Six months experience as a Nurse Aide in a geriatric setting preferred
- Must be cleared by PA State Police criminal history check
- Must meet federal requirements for enrollment on the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Registry upon employment or within 120 days of employment
- Must be sixteen years of age or older (will work within restrictions of child labor law)
- CPR Certification required or must be obtained and maintained
- Good written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills
Working Conditions
- Majority of work is performed in the resident living area
- Work area may also include transportation van and resident external appointment sites
Accident or Health Hazards
- Occasional exposure to blood and body substances
- Exposure to needle sticks possible
