Duties/Responsibilities
Provides basic nursing care to patients within the Nursing Assistant’s scope of practice that includes actions that meet the psychosocial and physical needs of the patient.
- Taking and recording vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respirations and oxygen saturation levels).
- Maintaining patient rooms clean and safe by making beds, changing linens, and assisting with walking.
- Answering call lights, in a polite manner and communicating information to the appropriate personnel or family.
- Assist in admission by setting up room with appropriate supplies for patient ADL care, clean linen on bed, transfers and discharge of patients by gathering patient belongings and assisting patient and belongings out of facility to vehicle.
- Updating electronic health records (EHR), documenting care, and reporting changes to nurses.
- Able to be flexible, organized, and function under stressful situations.
Requirements
- Required Skills/Abilities:
- Patient Care (ADLs): Assisting with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and feeding.
- Clinical Monitoring: Measuring and recording vital signs.
- Mobility Assistance: Safely transferring patients, repositioning bedridden patients and assisting with range of motion exercises.
- Infection Control: Adhering to safety protocols, including proper handwashing, sanitation, and usage of PPE.
- Documentation: Accurately recording intake/output, food consumption, vital signs and care provided.
- Education/Licensure Requirements:
- High School Graduate or Equivalent
- Completion of CNA Class desired
- Current BLS Healthcare certification
- Experience Requirements:
- Previous experience in acute care hospital or nursing home desired
- Basic computer knowledge
Physical Requirements
- Strength and Lifting: Ability to lift, push, pull and transfer patients safely using proper body mechanics.
- Stamina and Mobility: Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- Body Mechanics: Frequent bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, twisting, and reaching (above shoulder and below waist).
- Environmental Handling: Ability to work in confined spaces (e.g., bathrooms) and maneuver around equipment.
- Sensory Requirements: Ability to hear call lights, see patients with skin conditions, and communicate clearly with patients, families and staff.
- Environmental Exposure: Potential exposure to communicable/airborne diseases, blood-borne pathogens, body fluids and hazardous materials and waste.
- Occasional repetitive exposure to unpleasant and/or disagreeable working conditions; (i.e. odors, dirt, grease/oil, noise, fluctuations in temperatures).
- Work under stress due to workload pressures
