Responsibilities
- Takes and records temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure and input-output measurements.
- Makes morning or evening care rounds, including bed bath, oral hygiene, shampooing and combing hair, back care, nail care, skin care, dressing patient, changing the bed linen and cleaning the surrounding area.
- Performs routine treatment procedures as outlined on the HHA POC within the defined scope of practice for certified nursing assistants.
- Aids RN and/or LPN in treatment or procedures.
- Provides general care such as positioning, lifting or turning patients; assisting in use of bedpan, urinal or commode; assisting with ambulation and excercises, and safe patient transfers including use of patient lift; and application and/or removal of anti-embolism stockings.
- Cleans equipment and prepares for disinfecting or sterilization, and reports equipment that is not working properly.
- Uses equipment such as ice bags, ace bandages, and Abd binders as outlined on the HHa POC.
- Performs basic infection control techniques according to Covenant HomeCare policy.
- Attends to nutritional needs of patient, which may include preparing meals and feeding patients.
- Performs range of motion exercises where appropriate under supervision of Physical Therapy.
- Checks schedule and calls patients to provide patients with arrival times.
- Reports any changes observed in condition or behavior of patients and unusual incidents to licensed staff.
- Assists in orienting new employees.
- Demonstrates knowledge and competency in providing for age-specified needs of the population served.
- Demonstrates ability to perform skills on annual skills checklist.
- Completes and submits patient visit documentation.
- Affixes medications that are ordinarily self-administered (including topical) as outlined on the HHA POC.
Qualifications
- Minimum Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum Experience: Six (6) months hospital or related experience.
- Licensure Requirements: CNA Licensure from the State of Tennessee is required upon hire.
- Out of State hires must have the Tennessee CNA License “in process” as reflected on the state web site upon hire.
- CPR required.
- Employee must have a valid Tennessee driver’s license Class D and state mandated minimum insurance coverage.
- Driving record must meet Covenant Health minimum standards at the date of hire and throughout employment tenure.
