About the role

The Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as caregiver to residents during the scheduled work period in long-term care. Provides resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). Delivers age-appropriate care related to physical and psychological needs as per the care plan. Follows infection prevention and control policies and Personal Protective Equipment use.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with basic health care needs and daily living activities: bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing/undressing, obtaining and recording vital signs, and providing psychosocial support.
  • Help residents with transferring, repositioning, and walking using correct techniques and equipment; provide range of motion and passive exercises.
  • Prepare food and assist with dining, ensuring a positive experience; provide water and supplements as appropriate.
  • Aid providers and nursing staff with procedures as needed.
  • Document resident interactions, care outcomes, behavior, activity, and dietary information.
  • Communicate resident’s changing condition and care concerns to the charge nurse.
  • Collect non-invasive body fluid specimens and gather vital signs.
  • Provide housekeeping and laundry services to maintain clean living areas.
  • Assist with and document wellness and recreational programs; encourage resident participation.
  • May participate in departmental or organizational committees and task forces.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED preferred, but not required.
  • Minimum age of 16.
  • Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long-term care preferred.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the State Board of Nursing required within four months of hire (training and certification provided by facility).
  • Satisfactorily complete yearly competency testing and maintain continuing education credits (minimum 12 hours annually).
  • Maintain all required certifications.
  • When applicable, certified and registered with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry.
  • May require a valid driver’s license and motor vehicle report (dependent on facility needs).

Pay

$21.00 - $25.50 per hour, based on experience.

Schedule

PRN (as needed) with a flexible schedule.
