About the role
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) serves as caregiver to residents during the scheduled work period in long-term care (LTC). Provides resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). Delivers age-appropriate care related to the physical and psychological needs of the resident as per the care plan. A member of the nursing team, accountable for following infection prevention and control policies and Personal Protective Equipment use.
Responsibilities
- Assist with basic health care needs including daily living activities such as bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing/undressing, and obtaining and recording vital signs.
- Provide psychosocial support and other personal care to assigned residents.
- Assist residents in transferring, repositioning, and walking using correct and appropriate transfer techniques and equipment; provide range of motion and passive exercises.
- Complete tasks related to food preparation and dining, creating a positive dining experience; assist residents with meals and snacks, provide water and supplements as appropriate.
- Aid providers and nursing staff with procedures as needed.
- Document resident interactions, outcomes related to care, behavior, activity, and dietary.
- Communicate residents’ changing conditions and care-related concerns/responses to the charge nurse.
- Collect non-invasive body fluid specimens and gather vital signs.
- Provide housekeeping and laundry services to assist residents with keeping living areas clean and operational.
- Assist and document wellness and recreational programs, encouraging resident participation.
- May participate in departmental/organization committees and task forces.
Requirements
- High school graduate or general equivalency diploma (GED) preferred, but not required.
- Minimum age of 16.
- Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long-term care preferred.
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the State Board of Nursing, or state certified CNA within four months of hire by enrolling in a training program or obtaining certification through Endorsement.
- CNA training and certification provided by the facility.
- Satisfactorily complete yearly department-specific competency testing and maintain continuing education credits (minimum 12 hours annually).
- Maintain all department-specific required certifications.
- When applicable, certified and registered with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry for applicable states.
- If required by role, must qualify as a Sanford Category II Driver: valid driver’s license, motor vehicle report, and medically qualified to perform essential driving functions per Sanford Driving Policy.
Pay
$17.00 - $25.50 per hour
Schedule
- Full-time, 36 hours per week.
- Night shifts: 6:00 PM – 6:00 AM.
- Every other weekend and holiday.
