CNA Certified Nursing Assistant for Vent Unit

Gurwin Healthcare System is a full healthcare continuum providing extraordinary care to the Long Island community and beyond. Set primarily on a 36-acre campus in Commack, NY, the system includes the 460-bed Gurwin Jewish Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Gurwin's Assisted Living community, an independent living community, Island Nursing and Rehab Center, and two certified and licensed home care agencies.

About the role

We are seeking Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) to work on our vent unit, embodying the passion and commitment required to deliver the ultimate care for our residents. A $2,500 sign-on bonus is available for full-time CNAs and $1,250 for part-time CNAs.

Schedule

All positions require working every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday). Shifts available:

• 7:00am–3:15pm
• 3:00pm–11:15pm
• 11:00pm–7:15am

Requirements

• Current certification in New York State Nurse Aide Registry (not expired or lapsed).
• No findings or convictions of resident abuse, mistreatment, exploitation, neglect, or misappropriation of resident property listed on the Registry.
• One year long-term care experience and CPR certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs a variety of services for geriatric residents under the direction and supervision of a licensed nurse, including:
  • Assists with personal care services and Activities of Daily Living, such as:
    • Bed baths, showers, tub baths, and shampoos
    • Perineal care, oral hygiene, hair and nail care (non-diabetic)
    • Toileting, including bowel and bladder training regimens
    • Distribution of drinking water and nourishments
    • Assistance with meals, including transporting residents to the dining room, tray distribution, and feeding
    • Routine AM and PM care
  • Maintains non-patient areas (e.g., tub room, utility room) in a neat and orderly condition.
  • Assists with admission and discharge procedures.
  • Answers residents' call lights.
  • Performs errand services for the nursing unit as needed.
  • Maintains residents' living areas (bed, bedside table, overhead table, wheelchairs, geriatric chairs, clothing drawers, closets, and bathroom storage) in a clean and orderly manner.
  • Observes and reports changes in patient's condition or responses to care, including:
    • Measuring and recording fluid intake and output
    • Taking and recording temperatures, pulses, and respirations
    • Obtaining routine specimens: urine, stool, and sputum
    • Testing urine for sugar and acetone
    • Administering routine enemas
    • Obtaining and recording residents' weights
  • Assists residents in and out of bed, chairs, and stretches; lifting, turning, and positioning residents while applying principles of good body alignment.
