Qualifications

• Current license as a certified nursing assistant.
• Minimum of 6 months experience as a certified nursing assistant or clinical experience while enrolled in a nursing assistant certification class.
• Sincere desire to serve the ill, aged, and infirm.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English.
• Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, and the general public.
• Willingness to work harmoniously with other personnel.
• Patience, tact, cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm.
• Willingness to handle residents based on their current maturity level.
• Good general health and emotional stability.
• Ability to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and occasionally hostile people within the facility.

Responsibilities

General Duties

• Perform all duties as assigned and in accordance with facility’s established policies, procedures, nursing care protocols, and safety rules.
• Make resident rounds at the beginning of each shift and every two hours thereafter to administer quality nursing care.
• Verify resident identification before administering care or serving food.
• Report missing ID bands to admission coordinator immediately.
• Make beds and clean bedside/over-bed tables.
• Ensure water pitchers are cleaned, filled with fresh water, and within the resident’s reach.
• Other duties as directed by the Charge Nurse, RN Supervisor, Director of Nurses, or Administrator.

Clinical Duties

• Wash hands before and after caring for each resident.
• Position residents correctly and comfortably; elevate head of bed to 30° for all residents on feeding.
• Assist residents with dental and mouth care.
• Observe and report reddened areas on bony prominences.
• Other clinical duties as directed by the Charge Nurse, RN Supervisor, Director of Nurses, or Administrator.
