CMT Lab Technician

About the role

Atlas Technical Consultants is seeking a Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Lab Technician in Lubbock to support the West Texas area. The position involves performing lab testing for soils, aggregates, HMA, and concrete in accordance with TxDOT and ASTM standards, with potential for growth into field certifications.

Responsibilities

• Perform lab testing for soils, aggregates, HMA, and concrete to ensure compliance with TxDOT specifications and quality standards.
• Calibrate and maintain lab equipment.
• Ensure compliance with TxDOT Tex-series specs and Quality Control (QC).
• Log and document test data.
• Support occasional field sampling.
• Communicate results and anomalies to the Lab Manager.
• Follow all safety policies.
• Participate in training toward TxAPA/ACI certifications.

Requirements

• 1+ years of experience in construction materials testing (lab and/or field).
• Candidates with strong aptitude and willingness to learn also considered.
• Ability to read and comprehend test procedures, specifications, and lab worksheets.
• Working knowledge of soils, aggregates, HMA, and concrete testing preferred.
• Valid driver's license.
• Current TxAPA Level 1A, 1B, SB101, SB103, SB102, SB201, SB202, AGG101 and ACI Field Grade, ACI Strength (any combination) preferred, but not required.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and other tools used for material testing documentation.
• Knowledge of TxDOT, ASTM and AASHTO testing procedures relating to soils, aggregates, HMA, and concrete.
• Proficiency in preparing and documenting test results in accordance with TxDOT standards and project requirements.
• Ability to travel up to 25% of the time for occasional field support within the West Texas area with flexibility to transition between lab testing and occasional field testing/inspection duties as required.
• Willing to learn and work toward additional TxAPA/ACI certifications.
• Comfortable in a lab environment with occasional physical demands (lifting samples, standing for extended periods).

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Associate's degree in a relevant field preferred.
• Current certification in TxDOT Level 1A, 1B, SB101, SB103, SB102, SB201, SB202, AGG101 and ACI Field Grade, ACI Strength (any combination) preferred, but not required.
• Experience with laboratory equipment and testing procedures.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $45,000 - $60,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.

Schedule

The position requires occasional travel up to 25% of the time for field support within the West Texas area. The remaining time is spent in the lab.
