Job Responsibilities
- Attend all job and safety related training as required.
- Participate in all accident investigations, internal inspections or audits or those conducted by any regulatory agency.
- Do not modify or by-pass any safety-related systems on any equipment or machinery.
- Immediately report any unsafe conditions or unsafe behaviors to your Team Leader, Supervisor or the Department Manager.
- Immediately report any accidents, incidents or near-misses to your Team Leader, Supervisor, Department Manager or the Safety Department.
- Complete pre-operational safety checklists prior to operating any equipment or machinery.
- Create, modify and run Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) programs.
- Work cross-functionally with various departments, particularly Quality, Engineering, and Production and create self-driven work schedules to meet all CMM/gauging work order requirements on-time.
- Create measurement report formats and templates as to make work routines/dimensional layouts efficient during data collection.
- Perform dimensional layouts/inspections and gauge repeatability and reproducibility studies (GR & R) per PPAP launch requirements or Control Plan frequencies using the following precision instruments: Check Fixtures, CMM, taper gauges, micrometers, vernier calipers, scales, etc.
- Prepare/Generate CMM and other dimensional/SPC reports for part trials, PPAP launch submissions, or regular part shipments; articulate in accordance with customer specific requirements and to presentational fit.
- Read, understand and interpret automotive blueprints/CAD drawings, GD&T callouts and engineering specifications.
- Participate in continuous improvement activities, involving gage design approvals & validation process, and customer master-cubing reviews.
- Conduct analysis and technical problem solving with the Engineering Dept., all manufacturing departments, and customers as needed for nonconforming or poor capability data, in efforts to provide input on action plans necessary to resolve & meet compliance.
- Troubleshoot all CMM technical or software issues readily with appropriate hardware or applications services to maintain CMM operational capacity.
- Train team members as needed on gauging instructions at both on-site and off-site Decostar locations.
- Maintain a keen organization of tools, sign-out systems and work schedule in the CMM lab.
- Ensure housekeeping and that all equipment is identified logged and stored in accordance to procedures(s) for measuring and test equipment; utilize electric-handtruck & fork-lift as needed.
- Cook up proper receiving & delivery of all metrology gages when shipped out externally.
- Prepare work instructions for the proper loading and unloading of parts onto checking fixtures as well as for their data collection/reporting methods.
- Perform daily dimensional checks of production parts per Control plan frequency.
- Maintain records in accordance to the ISO/TS16949 systems, company procedures and work instructions.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Ability to read and understand blueprints/CAD drawings along with the ability to interpret the specs as well as GD & T call-outs.
- Experience in using various metrology equipment and calibrations thereof.
- CMM/programming experience is a must at an advanced level.
- Experience with PC-DMIS and associated programs such as Datapage/Dataview SPC softwares.
- Must possess excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word in Windows environment, (MS PowerPoint would be an asset).
- Previous experience with forklift operations is an asset.
- Ability to travel within and outside the U.S. when required.
- Past work experience related to this job.
- College degree required, minimum requirement is a 2-year technical degree.
- Minimum 4 years recent experience with a CMM, layout and measurement equipment, preferably in the automotive industry.
