Cmm Programmer

This role focuses on creating, testing, and maintaining automated CMM inspection programs to support precision manufacturing within an ISO 9001 environment. The CMM Programmer uses 3D CAD models and 2D engineering drawings to develop robust inspection processes, ensures accurate dimensional verification, and collaborates closely with machining and engineering teams to resolve quality issues and drive continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Create, test, and maintain automated CMM inspection programs using 3D CAD models and 2D engineering prints.
• Design, select, and assemble custom inspection holding fixtures and styli configurations to accommodate diverse component geometries.
• Perform initial dry runs to ensure offline and online CMM programs operate safely and efficiently without probe collisions.
• Execute First Article Inspections (FAI), in-process inspections, and final product layouts in accordance with customer and internal requirements.
• Interpret complex engineering drawings and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) specifications to verify part conformance.
• Analyze measurement data, generate non-conformance reports, and collaborate with CNC machining and engineering teams to resolve dimensional off-spec trends.
• Maintain calibration schedules, qualification records, and proper operating conditions for CMM equipment and precision hand tools such as micrometers, calipers, gage pins, and height gages.
• Support Material Review Board activities by evaluating rejected parts and determining accurate disposition data.
• Assist in continuous improvement initiatives, including root cause analyses and Statistical Process Control (SPC) implementation across manufacturing cells.
• Train and mentor CMM operators on daily program execution, probe calibration, and measurement best practices.

Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in offline and online CMM programming within an ISO 9001 manufacturing environment, preferably in thermal, aerospace, industrial equipment, or precision metal fabrication.
• Advanced proficiency in major CMM software such as PC-DMIS, MCOSMOS, or equivalent platforms.
• Expert knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) in accordance with ASME Y14.5 standards.
• Strong blueprint and engineering drawing interpretation skills.
• Solid familiarity with precision hand metrology tools, including calipers, micrometers, height gages, optical comparators, and gage pins.
• Proven ability to execute First Article Inspections, in-process inspections, and final product layouts.
• Demonstrated capability to analyze measurement data and prepare clear, detailed non-conformance reports.
• Experience maintaining calibration schedules and qualification records for CMM equipment and precision measurement tools.

Qualifications

• Background in ISO 9001-certified manufacturing environments such as thermal systems, aerospace components, industrial equipment, or precision metal fabrication.
• Experience collaborating with CNC machining and engineering teams to resolve dimensional and quality issues.
• Exposure to Material Review Board processes and part disposition activities.
• Participation in continuous improvement projects, root cause analysis, and Statistical Process Control (SPC) implementation.
• Ability to train and mentor CMM operators and inspection personnel on best practices.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high quality standards in a production environment.

Work Environment

The role is based in a precision manufacturing environment that operates under ISO 9001 quality standards and uses CMM equipment, CNC machining centers, and a wide range of precision hand metrology tools. You will work closely with production, engineering, and quality teams on the shop floor and in inspection areas, focusing on accurate dimensional verification and robust calibration practices. The environment emphasizes safety, adherence to documented procedures, and continuous improvement in measurement and inspection processes.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $40.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
