The Datacenter Security Team provides physical security solutions to protect AWS personnel, AWS facilities and information of our customers.

About the role

The AWS Datacenter Operations Physical Security team is looking for a forward-thinking, results-oriented, innovative and inspirational leader with proven results building high-performing teams. The Cluster Security Manager (CSM) will develop strategy, execute and lead data center (DC) security operations across multiple sites. You will implement and verify compliance with security procedures, standards and policies while optimizing the effectiveness and efficiency of physical security at our facilities. This role champions new initiatives for the physical security team and oversees implementation in coordination with multiple business partner teams.

The ideal candidate will have experience leading cross-functional teams, writing security strategies, driving processes to achieve industry-leading security, and reducing costs through process improvement and technology enhancement. You will operate with autonomy, complete discretion, and your work will require significant creativity and judgment. The role demands a confident, decisive, and innovative leader who can communicate a compelling vision and enforce high standards for programs at all levels.

25% travel required, both domestic and international.

Responsibilities

  • Build trust and maintain customer relationships with data center business partners to execute a comprehensive strategy that enhances security while enabling capacity growth.
  • Plan, develop, and implement security plans and programs such as Emergency Response and Crisis Management, Physical Security, and Incident Management, coordinating site investigations with the Global Intelligence and Investigative team.
  • Maintain extensive knowledge of complex industry trends, current security issues, and security technology, updating management on risks and threats against AWS employees and infrastructure.
  • Perform continual risk analysis for data center sites, particularly regarding crime, terrorism, workplace violence, and threats from natural and man-made disasters.
  • Provide leadership and best practices on security policy to on-site data center management, identifying vulnerabilities early and designing strategies to close security gaps.
  • Offer clear guidance and direction to AWS Data Center staff and contract security staff to achieve strategic security program objectives.
  • Support regional and global security leadership in investigating significant threats and/or loss or misappropriation of assets.
  • Develop and implement security standards and procedures for all contract site security coordinators.
  • Liaise with local, state, federal, and international law enforcement agencies for Data Center locations.

This role requires adaptability to a dynamic operational environment driven by changing customer requirements, build schedule changes, security vendor commitments, and evolving security threats. The incumbent must work at pace, adjusting priorities while relying on established knowledge of physical security and understanding the interplay between physical and logical data protection. Strong interaction with demanding customers and the ability to meet short-notice deadlines are essential.

  • Coordinate continuously with stakeholders in Operations, HR, Logistics, Design and Engineering, and Construction to synchronize security services with business processes.

We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to innovation. We tackle challenging problems with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain and collaborate across diverse teams including software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • 10+ years of physical security experience.
  • 5+ years of security management experience.
  • 5+ years of leadership role experience.
  • Fluent in English (speaking, writing, and reading).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a leadership role within physical security.
  • Experience in security management.
  • Experience managing a team of individual contributors.
  • 5+ years of physical security experience.

Pay

The base salary range for this position in New Florence, MO is $142,800.00 - $193,200.00 USD annually. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and location.
