About the role

Peraton is seeking a talented and skilled Cloud Software Engineer to join our Cyber Intelligence team in Laurel, MD. As part of a collaborative, high-impact integrated product development team, you'll work on next-generation cyber and AI/ML capabilities hosted on large-scale compute clusters and AWS Cloud infrastructure. This role involves cloud software research, development, and engineering services including requirements analysis, software development, installation, integration, evaluation, enhancement, sustainment, testing, validation, and issue diagnosis/resolution.

Responsibilities

  • Develop cloud-based software solutions supporting national security missions.
  • Work with OpenSource (NoSQL) products such as Hbase, Accumulo, and Big Table for distributed, massively parallel computation.
  • Utilize Map Reduce programming model and technologies like Hadoop, Hive, Pig, and HDFS.
  • Design and develop web applications using JavaScript.
  • Implement and use observability tools (e.g., Elasticsearch, OpenSearch).
  • Apply AI/ML algorithms, statistical analysis, and techniques like RAG and agentic workflows.
  • Develop software with high-level languages such as Java, C, C++, and Python.
  • Perform software integration and testing, including developing and implementing test plans and scripts.
  • Work with compute cluster monitoring tools (e.g., Hobbit, Ganglia).
  • Design and develop automated analytic software and techniques.
  • Apply Agile development practices with source code management tools.
  • Implement microservices and container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes).

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field (e.g., Mathematics, Information Systems, Engineering) from an accredited college or university, considered equivalent to two years of experience.
  • Two or more years of directly related experience in software development/engineering, including requirements analysis, software development, installation, integration, evaluation, enhancement, maintenance, testing, and problem diagnosis/resolution.
  • At least one year of experience developing software with high-level languages such as Java, C, or C++.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in software integration and testing, including developing and implementing test plans and scripts.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with OpenSource (NoSQL) products that support highly distributed, massively parallel computation needs (e.g., Hbase, Accumulo, Big Table).
  • An Active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph is required.

Qualifications

  • Experience with Large Language Models (LLM), Agentic AI, and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG).
  • Expertise in AWS Cloud Architecture design and development, including using AWS SDKs and APIs.
  • Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like CloudFormation or Terraform.
  • Skilled in Continuous Integration, Deployment, Testing, and Monitoring practices.
  • Java programming for distributed systems, with experience in networking and multi-threading.
  • Well-grounded in Linux fundamentals and knowledge in at least one scripting language (e.g., Python, Ruby, Perl).
  • Familiarity with microservices software development techniques and container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes).
  • Knowledge of security and compliance best practices.

Desired Qualifications

  • Cloud Developer Certifications such as AWS Certified Developer-Associate, AWS Certified Machine Learning-Associate, AWS Certified Machine Learning-Specialty, AWS DevOps Engineer Professional, or Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD).
  • Experience with Accumulo internals, including configuring, tuning, and testing Accumulo in large configurations (>200 node clusters).

Pay

Target salary range: $146,000 - $234,000. Salary is determined by various factors, including scope and responsibilities of the position, individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, competencies, geographic location, and business/contract considerations. Eligible employees may receive overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
