Cloud Platform Engineer
About the role
The Cloud Platform Engineer will design, develop, and evolve the Enterprise File System (EFS) platform, focusing on migrating a legacy Perl-based distributed application to a modern Python-based, microservices architecture.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop high-quality software that meets functional, non-functional, and compliance requirements.
- Implement well-defined APIs and write comprehensive unit and integration tests.
- Partner with engineering, operations teams, and subject matter experts to deliver modern distributed solutions.
- Ensure solutions integrate cleanly into the broader platform with robust, well-tested interfaces.
- Migrate a legacy Perl-based application to a modern Python-based, microservices architecture.
- Follow enterprise development standards and adhere to all security policies from development through deployment.
Requirements
- Strong Python expertise with demonstrated experience building production systems.
- Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs using the OpenAPI 3.0 specification.
- Experience developing large-scale, back-end applications and microservices.
- Proficiency with CI/CD practices and tools such as Jenkins and Ansible.
- Experience with Git-based source control and modern development workflows like Git and Bitbucket.
- Experience with Agile development tools, such as Jira and Confluence.
- Ability to understand, develop, and maintain complex distributed systems.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Experience developing across multiple architectural layers (data, application, business).
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Able to collaborate effectively with geographically distributed teams.
- Experience creating technical documentation and training materials.
- Experience with agentic software development tools; GitHub Copilot experience is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Kubernetes and/or OpenShift.
- Experience contributing to or operating containerized microservices environments.
- Familiarity with NFS and distributed file system concepts.
- Experience with Perl, especially for legacy system migration.
- Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux environments.
- Experience with NetApp Network Attached Storage devices.
- Experience analyzing and reporting on operational data with Oracle SQL and Splunk.
- Experience developing automation using Ansible.
